Kathy Griffin has shared her comedic talents with a variety of outlets, from stand-up routines to reality television. Naturally, she’s also been interviewed on a variety of shows over the years. Recently, she shared that one such interview, involving Barbara Walters herself, got an interesting reaction from her own mother. This also comes out after she gave a previous share about Walters.
Kathy Griffin Recently Shared The Story During An Episode Of The View
Griffin is a comedian and actress with a career starting in the 1980s. Reality show fans may know her best for her series, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List.
This past Friday, Griffin made an appearance on The View. During the conversation, the comedian shared stories about her late mother, Maggie Griffin. As she shared, she continues to be part of her stand-up routine, well into her New Face, New Tour.
Griffin shared, “People still like to hear stories about my mom and stuff she would say.” During the conversation, she shared that there was one moment that always made her laugh.
This was her mother’s reaction to one of her earlier appearances on The View. This was when co-creator Barbara Walters was still a co-host.
Griffin Previously Opened Up About A Time When She Almost Became A Permanent Co-Host On The View
As Griffin shared, “When I was on The View, she’d always yell at me. I thought you were too snippy with that wonderful Barbara Walters. Is there a card I can send her? Because I don’t think she’s ever had a guest as rude, Kathleen, as you!” She then teased that her mother would then come to the show and “faint.”
Previously on the show, Ana Navarro noted that many people were introduced to, and became fond of, Griffin’s mother through her reality show. Kathy herself noted that her mother’s on-screen personality was just what she was like in real life. As she noted, “She was really like that. So to know her on the D-List was to really know her.”
Griffin has often talked about her appearances on the show throughout the years. In fact, she has had around 27 appearances as a guest co-host. During a 2025 episode of her podcast, she shared that she was later offered $1.4 million for the role.
However, Griffin felt that it was below what she was earning at the height of her television and stand-up career. She also felt that Walters “did not like that one bit” after she turned down the offer.
