The Montreal Alouettes have signed senior vice-president of football operations and general manager Danny Maciocia, and head coach Jason Maas to two-year contract extensions, the team announced on Tuesday.

Under the terms of their new deals, Maciocia is now under contract through the end of 2031, while Maas is signed through the end of 2030.

“I would like to thank (Alouettes owner) Mr. Pierre Karl Péladeau for this vote of confidence, which means so much to our team. I am happy to continue with an organization that is stable, strong and filled with talent,” said Maciocia in a statement.

“Jason and I have focused on building a solid foundation, and we are now reaping the rewards of our efforts. The next few years are shaping up to be very exciting for our football team and for the city of Montreal and the entire province of Quebec.

“I could not have achieved this success without Jason’s contribution and leadership, as well as that of our football operations staff. Jason has surrounded himself with great football minds while successfully establishing strong chemistry and a strong work ethic in our locker room. He deserves the credit. I am very proud of him.”

Maciocia was hired as Montreal’s general manager in 2020, and has since helped the team reach the playoffs in five straight seasons. The team has gone 58-38-1 during the regular-season over that timespan, reached two Grey Cups, and won one in 2023.

The 59-year-old Montreal native started his CFL coaching career with the Alouettes in 1996 before moving to Edmonton in 2002. He spent nine seasons with the team, eventually worked his way up to the role of head coach and general manager, and won two Grey Cups.

Maciocia served as the head coach at the Université de Montréal from 2011 to 2019, and led the Carabins to a Vanier Cup championship in 2014.

Maas played quarterback under Maciocia in Edmonton, winning two Grey Cups. He also won a CFL championship as the quarterbacks coach of the Toronto Argonauts in 2012.

The 50-year-old native of Beaver Dam, Wis. later returned to the Green and Gold as head coach in 2016. He went 39-33 over four seasons with the team, earning three playoff berths.

After a stint as the offensive coordinator of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Maas was hired by Montreal in 2023. He has since gone 42-22-1 during the regular-season, won one Grey Cup, and one Coach of the Year award. He is one win shy of tying Marv Levy for fourth place all-time in Alouettes head coaching wins.

“I would like to thank Mr. Pierre Karl Péladeau for the confidence he has shown in me since the beginning of my journey with the Alouettes. Since joining this team, I have had the opportunity to work with great leaders, including Mr. Péladeau and his management team, while being surrounded by so many incredible people throughout this organization,” said Maas.

“Alongside Danny, we continue to build a winning culture that extends throughout our entire organization, and I am very grateful to him for that. We know this team is filled with great people who possess all the qualities, determination and effort needed to pursue a ninth championship.

“Our goal will always be to represent Montreal, Quebec and the 425 in the best possible way, every week. It is incredible to see the support from our fans and the enthusiasm they show at every practice and every game. We want to keep building on our momentum and continue to build on our success, and that is extremely motivating.”

The Montreal Alouettes (9-2) will host the B.C. Lions (6-5) at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium on Friday, September 4 with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT. Last week, the Lions crushed the Ottawa Redblacks to win a fifth-straight game, while the Alouettes snapped their seven-game winning streak with an upset loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The weather forecast in Montreal calls for a high of 21 degrees and a 30 percent chance of showers. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 730 CKNW (English) or Sher-E-Punjab Radio AM 600 (Punjabi) in Vancouver or TSN 690 (English) or 99.5 Montreal (French) in Montreal.
