The Montreal Victoire are one game away from winning the 2026 Walter Cup. On Saturday from Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, the Victoire defeated the Ottawa Charge 2-1 in overtime to take a two games to zero lead in the best out of five series. The Victoire are trying to become the first Canadian team to win the Professional Women’s Hockey League championship. The Minnesota Frost won the 2024 and 2025 Walter Cups.
The series to date has been extremely competitive. The Victoire have won the first two games in overtime. Montreal defeated Ottawa 3-2 in the first game of the series on Thursday.
In the second game of the series on Saturday, two Canadians registered a point for the Victoire. Defender Kati Tabin of Winnipeg, Manitoba scored the game-tying goal at the 32 second mark of the second period to tie the game at one goal apiece. Meanwhile, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec had a game-winning assist on an overtime goal by Maggie Flaherty. Poulin won a gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Game three of the 2026 Walter Cup now shifts to Ottawa on Monday.
