– The movie theatre partnership signed between BIM Distribuzione and MUBI Italia under the aegis of Gabriele D’Andrea, will come into effect on 1 August, bringing arthouse films to cinemas

BIM Distribuzione – belonging to the pan-European Wild Bunch Group AG network – and MUBI Italia are set to release quality films in movie theatres from 1 August. According to BoxOffice, the cinema distribution partnership between the two companies has been welcomed by BIM president Antonio Medici as “added value for the Italian market, thanks to a solid, balanced editorial offering rolled out consistently throughout the year. And we are very happy to be initiating this new collaboration with an innovative company like MUBI”.
Highlighting the affinity between the two companies’ slates, BIM Distribuzione’s head of theatrical releases Giulio Bruno added that, “in an increasingly complex market, we believe it is essential to explore new synergies”.
MUBI Italia’s vice president and managing director Gabriele D’Andrea is convinced that “building quality collaborations is one of the best ways to generate value in a dynamic context such as the Italian film market. Doing so together with BIM, a company that’s always been a point of reference for auteur cinema in our country, is a pleasure and a privilege for the entire MUBI Italia team”.
At the end of May 2025, MUBI – which in 2022 acquired one of the largest sellers of European auteur cinema, The Match Factory – announced its entry into cinema distribution in Italy, appointing Gabriele D’Andrea to lead this new activity, which dovetailed with the company’s distribution operations in North America, Latin America, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Benelux states via Cinéart, in which MUBI acquired a majority stake in 2024. D’Andrea previously worked at another arthouse distribution company, Lucky Red, for 13 years, overseeing its strategy and theatrical releases, and he continues to serve as CEO of Circuito Cinema, which is a network of independent, arthouse cinemas in Italy.
MUBI Italia’s first theatrical offering was Die My Love by Lynne Ramsay, which was selected in competition in Cannes last year, followed by Sirāt, by Spanish director Óliver Laxe, which won the Jury Prize in Cannes, and The Mastermind by American director Kelly Reichardt, which starred Josh O’Connor and was likewise presented in competition in Cannes.
