Having kicked off on 30 June in Sedan, shooting on Nicolas Boukhrief’s 14 juillet is proceeding as planned, with a wrap date set for 6 August. This will be the 10th feature film by the director, who was particularly praised for Cash Truck, Inside the Cell, Three Days and a Life and Like A Son.
The cast is led by Alexandra Lamy (recently at her best in Miss Violet and A Survivor’s Tale), Camille Rutherford (nominated for the Most Promising Actress César via Felicità, and for Jane Austen Wrecked My Life in 2026, also seen in Anatomy of a Fall and Nino) and Belgian actor Jonathan Zaccaï (awarded the Magritte for Best Actor via Private Lessons and well known for his recurring role in the series The Bureau).
Written by Nicolas Boukhrief and Éric Besnard (who previously teamed up to pen Cash Truck, Made in France and Like A Son), the screenplay centres on Alice Vernon, the devoted mayor of a small town in the east of France who’s assaulted on the night of the country’s national holiday. But who committed this crime? Over the preceding three days, she’d spared no effort to resolve her constituents’ myriad problems, whilst also grappling with a dilemma of her own: after serving two terms, can she really decide not to run in the upcoming elections and follow her husband to the South?
14 juillet is being produced by Emmanuel Agneray for Bizibi and by Audrey Guatelli for Dimanche Soir, in co-production with France 3 Cinéma, Le Bureau Films and Belgian firm Versus Production. Pre-purchased by Canal+, Ciné+ OCS and France Télévisions, the feature also enjoys support from the SOFICA companies Entourage, Indéfilms, Cofimage, Cinéaxe and Palatine. Cinematography comes courtesy of Rik Zang (nominated for the 2024 BAFTA TV award in his category thanks to the mini-series The Sixth Commandment). International sales will be steered by The Bureau Sales, while the film’s release in French cinemas will fall to Apollo Films.
For the record, Bizibi are currently overseeing post-production on Nicolas Pariser’s One Minute To Midnight (read our article), which might be unveiled in a world premiere at the next Venice Film Festival.
