NEON has just released the trailer for the new thriller Her Private Hell from director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive and Only God Forgives).
The synopsis of the film says that a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis, unleashing a deadly and elusive entity. Soon, a heinous killer known as Leather Man goes around the city taking the lives of women, and a troubled young woman searching for her father collides with an American GI on a harrowing odyssey to rescue his daughter from Hell. The cast includes Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, Dougray Scott, Diego Calva, and Kristine Froseth.
The film will make its world premiere at Cannes later this month in the out-of-competition section and is Refn’s first feature film after a ten-year sabbatical from directing movies. His last feature was The Neon Demon, a body-horror acid trip starring Elle Fanning that debuted at Cannes in 2016. Since then, he’s stayed busy in television, directing Copenhagen Cowboy for Netflix, Too Old to Die Young for Amazon Prime Video, and producing The Famous Five. He has previously described the film as an original story filled with “glitter, sex, and violence”. According to reports, it will revisit themes and possibly characters from some of his previous works.
Refn will direct from a script he co-wrote with Esti Giordani (Vida) and produce under his own byNWR banner. Executive producers include Takuma Takasaki, Kimberly Willming, Christina Erritzøe, and Lene Børglum, with Pino Donaggio (Carrie, Don’t Look Now) composing the score.
Her Private Hell will release in cinemas on July 24th.
