Noah Kahan‘s Pittsburgh stop this week ended with laughter, tears, and the singer-songwriter declaring he had “become a furry.”
Kahan posted a set of photos on Instagram from the evening, all shot by photographer Patrick McCormack. The caption told the whole story in one breathless run: “Pittsburgh we laugh we cried I became a furry I love this city so much.”
For anyone not plugged into internet subculture, a “furry” is someone who identifies with anthropomorphic animal characters. The fandom is known for creativity and enthusiasm, and sometimes for elaborate animal costumes called fursuits. Kahan didn’t spell out exactly what happened. That ambiguity is doing a lot of heavy lifting in the comments.
The post earned close to 181,000 likes.
It’s a fitting image for Kahan, who has built his whole career on this kind of honest, off-the-cuff energy. He’s from Strafford, Vermont, and his music is rooted in that experience. Cold winters, small communities, the pull of somewhere else. His 2022 album “Stick Season” put all of that into songs that felt deeply personal.
“Dial Drunk” and “Northern Attitude” are among the tracks that introduced a lot of people to his world. They’re not loud or flashy. They’re interior and specific, with a little melancholy baked in. They connect, and they’ve built him a following that shows up emotionally prepared.
His live shows match that. They’re cathartic one minute and genuinely funny the next. Audiences cry at the slow songs and laugh along with the banter in between. Kahan tends to be candid on stage. That keeps things honest even in the bigger venues he’s playing now. Pittsburgh, by all accounts, was exactly that kind of night.
Pittsburgh takes its live music seriously. The city has a deep concert culture, and crowds there show up with real investment. Artists who treat the stop like it counts tend to get that energy right back. Kahan clearly does.
McCormack, the photographer credited on the post, captured the evening in a set of candid shots. The photos give followers a look at what was clearly a memorable night.
Kahan has been on the road regularly through 2026, and Pittsburgh lands solidly among the cities that seem to bring out the full version of him. The laughter and tears aren’t surprising for a Kahan show. The furry comment, though, that’s new. That’s the part running through comment sections right now.
A lot of artists play it straight on emotional nights. Kahan jokes about becoming a furry instead. He’s self-deprecating and quick. The music gets heavy, but he keeps things grounded. Pittsburgh seemed to earn that.
That caption says it all. Pittsburgh just made the memory bank.
