Pat McAfee is an athlete-turned-analyst who recently shared some startling news for fans: the birth of his second baby. However, in a lengthy post, McAfee also shared complications during the pregnancy, which involved a C-section. Following this, the baby had to spend 36 hours in the NICU.
ESPN’s Pat McAfee Recently Discussed The Birth Of His Second Child On X & Instagram
McAfee is former football player and wrestler. He was a placekicker for the West Virginia Mountaineers, later being selected by the Indianapolis Colts. He later became known for his tenure in WWE.
Over the years, McAfee has also established himself as a sports analyst. He has served in this role on College GameDay and hosts his own ESPN sports talk show, The Pat McAfee Show.
In his personal life, McAfee married Samantha Ludy in 2020. The two welcomed their first child in 2023. In 2025, they announced that they were expecting their second baby.
Recently, Pat took to X and Instagram to announce the birth of their second child. In a lengthy post, it was shared that Samantha had to undergo an emergency cesarean section due to having a high-risk pregnancy.
Starting off the post, Pat shared, “Please help @mrsmcafeeshow, Mackenzie, & I welcome Midas Robert McAfee to our family. Due to Samantha having a high risk pregnancy and severe preeclampsia, the decision was made to have an emergency C-Section Friday night.”
Pat Also Explained Why He Named His Son After A Mythical King
Pat then described his new son, writing, “Baby boy entered the world on May 22nd at 10:42PM as a 6lb 6oz screaming young legend. 10 Toes, 10 Fingers, full head of hair.”
Discussing Midas’ first moments, Pat noted that the baby was able to get his O2 levels high enough and was able to spend time with his parents in his room. This allowed a lot of “firsts” with his parents, including “skin to skin, 1000 kisses, love, all of that.”

After this, Midas, who was born four weeks premature, was taken to the neonatal intensive care. McAfee shared, “They put a CPAP on our guy, a feeding tube, and put him in a heated pod with a heating lamp to help him develop a bit more.” Midas then spent 36 hours in the NICU before being allowed to be back with his parents in their room.
Pat shared that he was looking forward to Midas getting to meet his big sister, Mackenzie Lynn. He also explained his son’s mythical name, adding, “The name is perfect for the boy that Sam and I would like to raise. He will be an asset to society.
The sports analyst continued that his son “will treat folks right, and he will work his ass off to help his community achieve their own form of gold.” In the classic story, anything King Midas touched turned to gold.
