The Montreal Victoire have tied the Minnesota Frost at one game apiece in the best out of five Walter Cup Playoffs in the Professional Women’s Hockey League postseason. On Tuesday, the Victoire defeated the Frost 1-0 in a game from Laval’s Place Bell that went into triple overtime before being decided.
The two Canadian Victoire superstars were the Montreal stars in game two. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec scored the game-winning goal at 4:02 of triple overtime from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario and Abby Roque.
Meanwhile, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec made 38 saves for the shutout. She made nine saves in the first period, 13 saves in the second period, five saves in the third period, six saves in the first overtime, and five saves in the second overtime.
Poulin is a three-time Canadian Olympic gold medalist. She won gold at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Stacey and Desbiens won gold for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
Montreal next plays Minnesota on Thursday for game three. Both PWHL semifinals are tied at one. Ottawa and Boston play their game three in Ottawa on Friday.
