Some magic never fades, and apparently neither does the cult appeal of the Owens sisters. Nearly 28 years after the original Practical Magic cast its spell on audiences, Warner Bros. has officially confirmed the long-awaited sequel: Practical Magic 2, set to hit theaters on September 11, 2026.
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are both back, reprising their roles as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, the spellbinding witches from the Massachusetts family long whispered about by their neighbors. Joining them is Joey King, who plays Sally’s daughter, a new generation caught up in the family’s centuries-old curse.
Set 25 years after the events of the first film, Practical Magic 2 follows the Owens family as a new crisis emerges. When Sally’s daughter begins uncovering hidden secrets about the family’s history, and discovers she has dark abilities of her own, the Owens women are pulled into a multi-generational fight to finally break the curse that has haunted their bloodline for centuries. The story takes them from their home in Massachusetts all the way to the UK, in search of the true origin of their magic.
The sequel is directed by acclaimed Danish filmmaker Susanne Bier, known for After the Wedding and Bird Box, bringing a different sensibility to the franchise’s signature blend of romance, humor, and supernatural drama. The film is once again based on Alice Hoffman’s beloved source material, continuing the story she first introduced in her novel.
The official trailer opens with a familiar voice: Sally narrating, “I’m sure you’ve heard of the Owens family… the ones from Massachusetts… the ones their neighbors whisper are witches.” Gillian quickly chimes in with the franchise’s signature dark humor, setting the tone for what fans can expect: moonlit mischief, powerful ancestral magic, and the kind of sisterly bond that made the original a Halloween staple for an entire generation.
