Rogers has invested $22 million into strengthening its 5G+ network across BMO Field (known as Toronto Stadium for the time being) and other key areas of the city.
The upgrades, delivered by a 30-person crew over nearly 40,000 hours, include enhancements equivalent to adding 16 new cell towers in the downtown core, alongside an expanded spectrum that supports faster speeds and greater capacity within the stadium.
Outside the stadium, Rogers has boosted connectivity at fan zones, hotels, and major transit hubs such as Pearson Airport, Union Station, and parts of the TTC. Temporary solutions like Cells on Wheels and Cells on Light are currently being deployed to help manage peak deployment throughout the tournament.
Rogers notes that the investment aims to secure a reliable network experience during one of the world’s largest sporting events, while “leaving behind long-term infrastructure benefits for Toronto.” Now, this isn’t the first time Rogers has done something similar, spending $8 million on 5G network upgrades when Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour came to the city, citing expected surges in connectivity.
Toronto hosts five Group Stage matches and one Round of 32 match. The matches take place on June 12 (Canada v Bosnia & Herzegovina), June 17 (Ghana v Panama), June 20 (Germany v Côte d’Ivoire), June 23 (Panama v Croatia), June 26 (Senegal v Iraq), and July 2 (2K v 2L).
