Saturday Night Live has weighed in on a number of current events since its inception. Recently, sports fans have been sharing ideas they have for the show. This concerns how they feel the show should be handling the controversy concerning Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini. In addition, some fans have been wondering what could be going on behind-the-scenes.
Photographs Of Mike Vrabel & Dianna Russini Together Were Published Back In April
Vrabel is a prominent NFL coach, while Russini has established herself as a top NFL insider. Several times over the past seven years, the two have been caught in photos and videos depicting them in intimate and personal settings, despite the two both being married.
After videos recently resurfaced, the story has since made a number of headlines. Sports fans have seen Vrabel apologize for his behavior, while Russini announced that she would be stepping down from her position at The Athletic.
However, some sports fans have been wondering why the story had been ignored by one outlet in particular, the late-night sketch comedy series, Saturday Night Live. Taking to social media, one fan, Tony Farmer of Tony Talks Football shared, “Not one joke from SNL about the Vrabel – Russini scandal that’s been going on for 4+ weeks?”
Some Pinned Things On Network Politics, While Others Thought This Wasn’t Something Saturday Night Live Would Normally Cover
As one fan noted, however, this could be due to the behind-the-scenes issues with the network. As one fan mused, “NBC holds a major 11-year NFL media rights deal (2023–2033) valued at approximately $2 billion annually, primarily for broadcasting ‘Sunday Night Football.’ The contract includes streaming rights on Peacock, Super Bowl rotations, and features an opt-out window after the 2029-2030 season.”
Taking to social media, fans have been sharing all sorts of reasons behind it. Some agreed that network politics could be an issue, noting that this might be an issue with networks outside of NBC as well.

On the other hand, others felt that this was a story that Saturday Night Live doesn’t normally cover. A few felt that the long-running series usually waits until more of a story is revealed before discussing it further. Some comments included:
- “NBC- Holds rights to NFL games, CBS- Holds rights to NFL games, ESPN- owned by and holds rights to NFL games, Fox- going after the NFL for streaming. where Kraft plays a key role in negotiations. Murdoch owned Page Six breaks story on Krafts coach’s affair… Dots connecting.”
- “I know you and I respectfully disagree here, but I will again make the point that I don’t think this is really a story anyone really cares about outside of the Bills, NYJ & Eagles fan bases. It’s interesting from a gossip perspective but that is about it. Anyway, just my opinion.”
- “SNL usually doesn’t touch a subject until they got the full story. At least SNL I use to watch, haven’t watched in a while though if things changed. Plus, enough fans have to care about a subject for them to take notice.”
