Doublespeak is a synth-pop supergroup formed by Erasure -Yazoo-Depeche Mode’s Vince Clarke, Blancmange’s Neil Arthur, and electronic producer Benge. And if you are not familiar with these names then you have a huge gap in your musical compass that needs an upgrade.But for us Gen x-ers electronic music begun with these guys that formed this group to create an album full of electronic covers.Their self-titled debut album is an eclectic collection of 11 reinterpretations spanning four decades of post-punk, pop, and electronic music, including covers of tracks by ABBA, Fad Gadget, and The Carpenters. The album is not a traditional “covers” album, but rather a re-imagining of songs that shaped the trio’s musical DNA.If you are a fan of synth-pop this is a must have album that will bring back memories of an era that can not be repeated.From this album i chose their cover on The Sound’s “I Can’t Esxape Myself” an anthem that defined our youth in so many ways.
