Stephen Colbert’s time with The Late Show is set to come to an end next month. However, he’s continued to discuss a variety of current events on the show. Recently, he had a few words for President Donald Trump as he weighed in on a recent political and theological discussion.
Stephen Colbert’s Last Episode Of The Late Show Is Scheduled For This May
Colbert first took over as the host of The Late Show in 2015, taking over the role from David Letterman. He previously hosted The Colbert Report for Comedy Central.
CBS previously announced that they would be retiring The Late Show‘s format, bringing Colbert’s time on the show to an end. The final episode is currently scheduled for May 21, 2026.
As the show comes to an end, Colbert has continued to offer commentary on various current events on social media. Recently, he discussed President Donald Trump using an AI image that portrayed him as a Jesus Christ-like figure.
The image was shared on April 12. At the time, it drew criticism from both political opponents and religious conservatives. The image was later deleted by Monday, but still spurred on discussions in the media.

President Donald Trump Previously Gave An Explanation For The Image
During a recent monologue, Colbert shared, “I’m sure by now everyone has seen the AI slop that [Trump] posted, depicting himself as a cross between Jesus and Dr. Strange. This recreational blasphemy got Trump so much heat that he pulled the post down from social media, and now people can only see it everywhere on the internet.”
As Colbert continued, “Clearly, the damage has been done. In fact, even ‘staunch Trump supporters are asking if he’s the antichrist.’” The host bluntly said, “Yes. Yes, he is,” before assuring that he was just joking. He later added, “Trump’s social media presence needs an exorcism.”
For his part, according to The U.S. Express, Trump later claimed that the image was meant to portray him as a doctor and not a religious figure. The post had also come amid his ongoing feud with Pope Leo, who has been critical of the strikes in Iran. According to Forbes, the president later shared a photo of himself with Jesus.
