The Black Crowes have some widely celebrated hits, such as “Hard to Handle” and “She Talks to Angels.” Frontman Chris Robinson has also been in the news lately as his son with actress Kate Hudson just graduated from NYU. At the same time, he and his band just went off on their overly patriotic audience, but what happened? Keep reading for more details and to see the video.

The Black Crowes Just Wanted To Sing

After forty years of performing, The Black Crowes are still very much in demand. Fans love their gritty rocker sound and musical stylings. They have several hits that have made their way to cover bands and soundtracks. Plus, Chris Robinson was married to actress Kate Hudson at the beginning of her career. The two share a son, Ryder, and they just gathered together to celebrate his New York University graduation.

At the same time, Chris and his band have been touring. They recently made a stop at the MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida. As they began “She Talks to Angels,” an image of their Black Crowe was displayed, dressed as Uncle Sam. Soon enough, concertgoers started to chant “USA.” That did not go over well with Chris Robinson and The Black Crowes, who felt that there was nothing to be proud of right now. Chris quickly said:

“I don’t know what you have to be so proud of right now.”

That led the crowd to boo him, but it was a co-headlining tour, so they may not have been there to see him and his band. Whiskey Myers was the other headliner, so that may have been the draw in Florida. However, what Chris said was clearly deemed un-American, and the audience let him know it.

Chris and his band are very politically open, so the audience should have known in advance. Yet, if Chris Robinson was going to come at them, what did he expect?

    The Backlash Is Real

Yes, The Black Crowes have a very strong and faithful fanbase. So, what did followers have to say when they saw what happened in Florida? Many noted that there were a lot of empty seats and joked about that. They stated that they were no longer relevant, but they seem to still be going strong. Regardless, this moment has gone viral and did not go off well:

    • All because they chanted “USA” after they showed a patriotic hit on the screen. God forbid we love our country!
    • Wait .. your are only a huge Rock Band because you were able to freely play in this great country
    • A wise man once said don’t talk about religion, politics or the Great Pumpkin
    • But folks chanting USA is a predictable crowd reaction when the video screens at the concert display images of Uncle Sam.

It will be interesting to see how The Black Crowes change their visuals based on this reaction. Are you shocked by this response, or was it warranted? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
