Alyssa Farah Griffin took a temporary break from The View in February to have her baby. The show brought in several guest hosts to fill in for her during the two months she was gone. Now it’s Joy Behar’s turn to be replaced.
The longtime host announced this week that she’s jetting off to Europe and won’t be on the show for a bit. The show’s executive producer named Joy Behar’s replacements during her unexpected absence.
The View Names Joy Behar’s Replacements Amid Exit
Joy Behar, 83, was an original co-host of The View when it premiered in 1997. She missed Seasons 17 and 18, reportedly due to contract negotiations. The comedian sparked concern for her health after struggling to get to her chair unassisted.
But her upcoming trip to Europe is more than just a vacation. Joy Behar’s play “My First Ex-Husband” debuted off-Broadway in NYC last year. Now, the comedy production heads overseas. The View host will appear on stage in Paris, France, before traveling to London, England. It’s a huge milestone in her already accomplished career.
But she can’t be in two places at once. When Alyssa Farah Griffin was on maternity leave, she was replaced by several conservative guest hosts, including Savannah Chrisley. However, Joy Behar isn’t expected to be gone longer than a couple of weeks.
The View is bringing back popular guest co-host Sheryl Underwood for several episodes. Executive producer Brian Teta announced the news on the Behind the Table podcast.

Additionally, CNN contributor Kara Swisher temporarily fills in for Joy Behar. Regular hosts Ana Navarro and Whoopi Goldberg will be on more during their co-host’s absence.
Ana Navarro usually appears on Mondays and Fridays. Whoopi Goldberg takes Fridays off. Both will be at the “Hot Topics” table more than usual while Joy Behar is in Europe.
Fans React To Shocking News
The news of Joy Behar’s temporary exit was a surprise to fans. They took to Reddit to share their reaction to Sheryl Underwood and Kara Swisher as guest hosts.
- “I love Kara Swisher. And Sheryl was very good. They’ll do a great job. No one can replace Joy, but I’m sure she thinks about eventually taking it easy.”
- “Looking forward to Kara. I know she’s popular here but I can take or leave Sheryl. It was the same “This is not the America/GOP/conservatism I know!” and references to “God” every answer in that same bellowing voice.”
- “Great guest host!”
However, there was a small debate over whether Joy Behar’s play was actually happening or if she was going to Europe to get a secret facelift. Former View host Rosie O’Donnell confessed this week to secretly going under the knife.
