After nearly 20 years as moderator, Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t have much patience left for audience shenanigans on The View. One recent guest received an overwhelming response, causing the host to shut them down. Keep reading for all the details on the shocking situation.
The View Audience Goes Wild For Surprising Guest
The View has welcomed former Presidents to the table, as well as some of the most controversial guests. The studio audience kept themselves in check for President Obama and kept the heckling to a minimum for Marjorie Taylor Greene. However, a guest this week caused the studio audience to go wild.
Musician John Legend returned to The View this week to promote his tour and discuss his charity work. His skincare brand, Loved01, launched a new initiative to bring awareness and support to caregivers.
He also received a huge honor by having one of his songs played in space. His song “Green Light” was included in the wake-up playlist for the Artemis II crew during their recent mission to the moon. Other artists on the playlist include Chappell Roan and CeeLo Green.
The crew successfully returned to Earth on April 10, 2026, after 10 days in space. How did John Legend feel about his song being played in space?
Whoopi Goldberg Shuts Down Unruly Crowd
Alyssa Farah Griffin could barely hold her excitement about interviewing John Legend. But she wasn’t the only fan-girl in the studio. The studio audience erupted when she was asking the musician about “Green Light.”

“Welcome back, it’s such a pleasure to have you. Now, you just walked out to your song ‘Green Light,’ and on April 2, NASA Mission Control played it for the Artemis crew…” Alyssa Farah Griffin said before the cheers from the audience drowned her out.
Whoopi Goldberg stepped in to shut the audience down. “Hey, y’all, this is only an hour-long show. Please let this girl ask the question because you want to know the answer!” she scolded the live audience. Alyssa Farah Griffin laughed off the audience’s enthusiasm, saying she was as excited as they were.
So, what was his answer? “I did not know it was going to happen. My dad — usually I’m the one who tells him what’s happening in my career — but he called me and was like, ‘Did you know they played your song in outer space?’” John Legend said. He added that it was “so cool” to hear.
The studio audience was clearly there to see John Legend and not the hosts. Joy Behar had joked days earlier on the Behind The Table podcast that it was a “problem” when the audience is there for a guest.
The View producer Brian Teta said the show doesn’t work “the same” if the audience is waiting for a guest. Joy Behar quipped that it was “a problem” the show needs to fix.
Whoopi Goldberg’s job on the talk show is to keep the peace and keep the show moving. Tell us if you think she overstepped by shushing the audience.
