Today Show anchor Craig Melvin became extremely emotional as he shared life-changing news with his co-hosts. He has been through a crazy summer, which included an intruder screaming racial slurs at him. Craig Melvin Has Huge News To Spill
It has been quite a year for the Today Show panel. They have rallied as Savannah Guthrie’s mother was kidnapped and made sure that she felt loved and supported. Then, they were there when Savannah chose to return two months later with arms wide open, although it was a struggle. There was a lot of scrutiny aimed at her for coming back, given her situation. Yet, she did not care and wanted to go on with her life. Craig Melvin was by her side, and he went on to experience his own trauma when an intruder broke onto the set.
He shouted racial slurs at Craig, but was really looking for Al Roker. Fortunately, that man has since been arrested, and Craig took time to be with his family for a summer vacation. Now, he is sharing some life-changing, emotional familial news with his co-hosts. His beloved mother, Betty, has rung the bell to signify the end of her cancer treatments. Jenna Bush Hager was doing her “Morning Boost” segment. It showcased a grandmother being surprised during her final chemo treatment by her granddaughter, which caused Craig to become emotional:
“Yeah, well, my mom rang the bell today, so, yeah, that’s a good one.”
Betty was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2025, and she was in absolute disbelief. Moreover, she had already lost loved ones to cancer, so she did not want to go through this again:
“My youngest son, I lost my granddaughter to cancer, children’s cancer. I lost my son to colon cancer about five years ago, so to tell them your mom has been diagnosed with breast cancer, it was hard. It took me several hours before I could call them and let them know.”
However, Betty is a fighter, and now, Craig Melvin and his mama got to celebrate this very special moment.

After Craig Melvin revealed that his mother had rung the bell, Today Show viewers were thrilled. Moreover, they immediately popped in to let him know how excited they were over this news:
