Tom Hardy has been the subject of headlines as of late, following reports of alleged tensions behind the scenes of the crime drama series “MobLand.” Amid the speculation, one of the actor’s co-stars, Helen Mirren, showed support for Hardy with a simple post on social media.
Hardy was reportedly fired for his on-set behavior, but a source refuted the claim, stating that the actor could come back for the show’s third season.
Several outlets reported on Tom Hardy’s alleged problematic behavior on “MobLand,” the Paramount+ series in which he portrays Harry Da Souza, a fixer for a crime family. The on-set issue reportedly escalated to the point of Hardy being fired, which a source is shutting down.
Amid the controversy, one of his co-stars, Helen Mirren, has broken her silence and shown her support for Hardy. On May 29, the 80-year-old actress posted a photo of Hardy on Instagram with a text overlay that read, “Love you now and always.” Her post has garnered thousands of likes, though the comments section was restricted.
The Actor Allegedly Irked Producers And Co-Stars
Mirren’s post comes after reports that there was tension between Hardy, the show’s producers, and his co-stars. A source told The Hollywood Reporter that Hardy kept his co-stars, Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, waiting “for hours at a time” and refused to come out of his trailer.
Other reports claimed Hardy sent script notes to the producers and creators of “MobLand” and changed his dialogue. An insider also alleged that Mirren grew “frustrated” at Hardy, stating, “He can be late to filming too and that is annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined. His tone is something Dame Helen doesn’t like, along with his lateness.”
The source added that while Hardy’s character is calm and charming, he behaves the oppositewhen cameras aren’t rolling.
Tom Hardy On Working With His Co-Stars
Pierce Brosnan and Mirren play husband and wife Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, the ruthless power couple at the center of the criminal empire in “MobLand.” The show marks Hardy’s first time working with the actors.
In an interview with Parade in 2025, Hardy expressed his enthusiasm over co-starring with the two iconic actors, saying that he admired both Brosnan and Mirren’s previous works. “To be able to watch them do something I think they’re brilliant in and to be part of that experience is fantastic,” he said, adding that it was an “absolute joy” to work alongside them.
Based on Mirren’s support for Hardy on Instagram, the speculations about their on-set dynamic may have been blown out of proportion.
The Actor Was Not Fired From ‘MobLand’
There were claims that Hardy was fired from ‘MobLand’ due to his issues with the creators and producers of the show. On May 28, however, a source close to the production shut down the claim and told Variety, “Tom was not fired, the door is not closed for Season 3 and things are being worked through creatively.”
The first season of “MobLand” premiered in 2025 and became a massive streaming success, garnering 2.2 million worldwide viewers on its first day on the platform. It was renewed for a second season after reaching more than 26 million viewers. Season 2 has wrapped filming but has yet to be released.
“MobLand” Season 3 has not been officially announced, but its return seems likely. If the insider’s claims are true, Hardy may well be reprising his role as well.
Tom Hardy Clashed With Past Co-Stars
This isn’t the first time Hardy has been reported to have tension with his co-stars. In 2015, the actor starred alongside Charlize Theron in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and back then, the latter reportedly confronted the actor for showing up late, among other things.
In 2020, Theron and Hardy addressed the reports, with both actors admitting they could have dealt with each other better. “In retrospect, I didn’t have enough empathy to really, truly understand what he must have felt like,” Theron shared. Hardy agreed, saying, “I think in hindsight, I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times.”
In 2012, Hardy and Shia LaBeouf reportedly had a physical fight on the set of their film “Lawless.” While LaBeouf publicly brushed it off as roughhousing, the movie’s director, John Hillcoat, said “there was definitely a fight,” and they had to be “restrained.” However, he said reports that LaBeouf knocked out Hardy were an exaggeration.
