Tyler Mislawchuk of Winnipeg, Manitoba won two medals at a World Cup triathlon in Edmonton this past weekend. He won the silver medal in the men’s event on Saturday, and then a silver medal in the elite mixed relay on Sunday. Mislawchuk teamed up with Sidney Clement of Vancouver, British Columbia, Isla Britton of Montreal, Quebec, and Martin Sobey of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.
Mislawchuk placed behind gold medalist Solomon Okrafo-Smart of Great Britain and ahead of bronze medalist Reese Vannerson of United States. According to Chris Dornan of Triathlon Canada, the finish was “epic” as there were four triathletes with the exact same time. Okrafo-Smart, Mislawchuk, Vannerson and fourth place finisher Nathan Grayel of France had a time of 52 minutes and 20 seconds.
Mislawchuk’s swim was nine minutes and five seconds. His transition time from the swim to the bike was 53 seconds. Mislawchuk’s cycling time was 27 minutes and 11 seconds, his transition time from the bike to the run was 24 seconds, and his run was 14 minutes and 46 seconds.
In the elite mixed relay, Team Canada had a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 24 seconds. Italy won the gold medal with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 17 seconds. France won the bronze medal with a time of one hour, 22 minutes and 34 seconds. Canada reached the podium by 16 seconds over the United States. The Americans had a fourth place time of one hour, 22 minutes and 40 seconds.
Mislawchuk has now won 12 World Cup medals. He has won four gold medals, five silver medals and three bronze medals. The silver medals for Mislawchuk, Clement, Britton and Sobey will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
