Aston Villa have signed former Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old left Bayern at the end of last season having won seven Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.
He offers much-needed class and experience to a Villa side in the midst of a complete overhaul as Unai Emery prepares for a Champions League campaign.
Villa have been looking to add to a midfield that has lost the services of Youri Tielemans, who left for Manchester United, with Amadou Onana out of action after rupturing his ACL while playing for Belgium at the World Cup.
The former Schalke midfielder made 48 appearances for Bayern last season, scoring five goals, all of which came in the Bundesliga.
In his time eight seasons at Bayern, Goretzka made 312 appearances, scoring 51 goals. He won seven Bundesliga titles, three DFB-Pokals and one Champions League title.
