The health of former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has once again come under the spotlight after a wave of alarming reports triggered concern among fans. However, in a decisive move to calm speculation, his wife Andrea Hewitt has stepped forward to set the record straight. Her statement comes at a time when rumours about a critical brain condition and possible stroke risk had begun to circulate widely, creating anxiety within the cricketing community.

Andrea Hewitt dismisses health rumours around Vinod Kambli

Andrea has firmly rejected claims suggesting that Kambli is in a life-threatening condition. Addressing the situation directly, she reassured fans that the former cricketer is stable and not facing the severe health crisis being reported.

“By God’s grace, Vinod is fine. I don’t know who is spreading false information about his health,” she told journalist Vickey Lalwani.

Her response comes as a strong counter to recent reports that painted a grim picture of Kambli’s health. While she acknowledged that the 54-year-old has battled medical issues in recent years, she emphasized that the current situation is being exaggerated. According to her, Kambli is not in immediate danger, and the panic surrounding his condition is largely unfounded.

Andrea’s clarification has brought much-needed relief to fans who had been fearing the worst. In an era where information spreads rapidly, her statement serves as a reminder of how quickly misinformation can escalate, especially when it involves public figures.

The concern surrounding Kambli’s health intensified after statements made by his close friend Marcus Couto, a former first-class umpire. Couto revealed that the cricketer has been dealing with a brain clot since his hospitalization in Thane nearly 18 months ago.

“Ever since he was hospitalised in Thane about 18 months ago, Kambli has had a clot in his brain. His memory is not good. He remembers things and then forgets about them. That’s all due to that clot in his brain,” Couto stated.

He further highlighted that while Kambli has made efforts to improve his lifestyle—such as giving up alcohol – certain habits like occasional smoking remain a concern. Medical advice, particularly from neurosurgeon Aadil Chagla, has strongly warned against such practices due to the increased risk of a stroke.

Despite these challenges, there have been encouraging signs in Kambli’s recovery. Couto noted that he has recently appeared in an advertisement and is able to move around with the help of a walking stick. These updates indicate that while his journey is far from easy, he continues to make gradual progress.

Cricket fraternity extends support to Kambli

As Kambli navigates both health and financial difficulties, the cricketing community has rallied around him. A dedicated WhatsApp group, reportedly initiated by Marcus Couto, has brought together several former cricketers and well-wishers to offer assistance.

Among those involved is Sachin Tendulkar, Kambli’s childhood friend and one of the most iconic figures in cricket. This collective effort highlights the strong bonds within the cricket fraternity and the respect Kambli continues to command despite his struggles.

Kambli’s health issues date back several years. In late 2024, he was hospitalized due to a severe urinary infection and muscle cramps, during which further medical evaluations revealed the presence of brain clots. Earlier, in 2013, he had undergone two heart surgeries, with support from Tendulkar.
