MI New York finally got their campaign up and running in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 season with a commanding eight-wicket victory over the Texas Super Kings in Match 7 at Grand Prairie Stadium. While the defending champions impressed in all departments, one moment stood above the rest when veteran New Zealand pacer Trent Boult produced a spectacular direct-hit run-out to dismiss Amshi de Silva in the final over of the innings.

The sharp piece of fielding capped off an outstanding bowling display from Boult, who returned figures of 3 for 18 and played a decisive role in restricting Texas to a modest total before MI New York comfortably chased it down.

Bullseye from Trent Boult ends Texas innings in dramatic fashion

The highlight arrived on the second delivery of the 20th over when De Silva nudged the ball towards the left of the bowler and attempted a quick single. Boult reacted instantly, sprinting towards the ball, collecting it with one hand, and releasing a perfectly aimed throw at the bowler’s end.

The direct hit caught De Silva well short of his crease, bringing the innings to an abrupt end and sending teammates into celebration. The dismissal also underlined Boult’s alertness and athleticism, turning what seemed like a routine single into one of the standout moments of the tournament so far.

The run-out completed Texas Super Kings’ innings at 158 in 19.2 overs and added another memorable clip to the experienced left-arm pacer’s highlight reel.

Texas struggle despite useful contributions in the middle order

Asked to bat first, Texas Super Kings were already facing a challenge after regular captain Faf du Plessis missed the contest because of a back spasm. The absence of their leader was evident as wickets fell at regular intervals against disciplined bowling from MI New York.

Boult struck early to damage the top order, creating immediate pressure that Texas never fully escaped. Although Shubham Ranjane fought hard with a valuable 49 and Milind Kumar chipped in with 39, neither batter could convert their starts into a match-defining innings.

Corbin Bosch then took over in the latter stages, producing a superb spell of 4 for 29 to dismantle the lower order and prevent Texas from reaching what could have been a more competitive total.

Nicholas Pooran guides MI New York to a comfortable chase

The chase rarely looked in doubt as MI New York’s batters approached the target with confidence and composure. Wicketkeeper-batter Monank Patel laid a solid platform with 46, allowing captain Nicholas Pooran to dictate proceedings in the second half of the innings.

Pooran remained unbeaten on 68, showcasing controlled aggression and clean stroke play as he steered his side to 162 for 2 with 14 balls still remaining. His innings ensured there were no late twists and helped MI New York register their first win of the season in convincing fashion.

While Pooran’s half-century and Bosch’s four-wicket haul were crucial to the result, it was Boult who stole the spotlight with both ball and in the field. His incisive spell and stunning direct-hit run-out combined to produce one of the defining performances of the match, giving MI New York the perfect boost as they look to build momentum in the remainder of the MLC 2026 campaign.
