Many game show fans have often dreamed of what it would be like to be a contestant on their favorite shows. Of course, these shows usually require a bit of an audition process before anyone hits the stage. Recently, some members of the Wheel of Fortune crew weighed in on one mistake people often make while auditioning.
Wheel Of Fortune Recently Held Auditions In New York Back In April
Wheel of Fortune is a game show that has been running since 1975. The show is currently hosted by Ryan Seacrest, who took over for long-running host Pat Sajak, and Vanna White.
The show has a complicated audition process, with the “Wheelmobile” travelling throughout the United States to host auditions throughout the year. After a first audition, promising candidates are invited to a second audition that involves mock games and can be followed by further interviews. In addition, at times, auditions are held online.
Recently, the show hosted auditions in New York back in early April. Woman’s World reported on the event, noting that people were not elaborately dressed and had to wait around two hours. After filling out a questionnaire, contestants were put into groups of five and had less than a minute to impress producers.
Hosts Vanna White and Ryan Seacrest were not part of the event, but the show’s social media correspondent, Maggie Sajak, daughter of Pat Sajak, did show up. She also shared some advice. Summing it up, she assured, “Be yourself.”
One Producer Also Shared Something That Could Help A Potential Contestant’s Chances
Elaborating further, Maggie continued, “Don’t be nervous. They just want to see who you really are. We know how much you love the show. We just want to hear about you. This is just fun. This is low-stress, and no matter what, you’re going to have such a fun story to tell your friends later!”
Contestant producer Alexandra Black also shared similar sentiments. She noted, “We are always looking for contestants with natural enthusiasm who can stay focused under pressure, know the game, and are ready to have fun.”

Black also shared a mistake she felt most hopeful contestants make. She continued, “The biggest mistake an applicant can make is not being themselves. We want to get to know you.”
While it could seem obvious, contestants only have a short time to impress the producers. During the share, Black also advised, “We know you love Wheel of Fortune, or else you wouldn’t be here; so, tell us something we don’t know and wouldn’t expect about you. Telling us what makes you unique is a definite ‘do!’”
