The White House is setting up a summit for Wednesday with cryptocurrency and prediction market executives, according to people familiar with the plans.
Those familiar with the idea did not disclose a guest list or discussion topics, stressing that the meeting remains unsettled.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment about the summit, which Politico first reported.
It’s unclear if President Trump plans to attend the meeting.
Traditional finance executives could also attend the gathering, according to the Politico report.
The potential session comes after the Securities and Exchange Commission canceled a Friday meeting to decide whether the agency should propose new crypto market rules.
In a statement, the SEC said the cancellation was caused by “an unforeseen scheduling issue.”
The agency was scheduled to vote on a proposal for exemptions that would let crypto startups raise capital without complying with securities offering rules.
The possible White House meeting would take place one day before the Commodity Futures Trading Commission discusses a new Innovation Advisory Committee comprised of executives from crypto, gambling, finance and prediction markets.
The Senate began its recess on Saturday without voting on the Clarity Act, which would create new rules for regulating the industry, signaling the bill may not pass.
Under Mr. Trump, the federal government has reversed much of its crypto policy, loosening restrictions and overhauling regulations to make it easier for token and blockchain-based trading.
His moves are in contrast to President Biden, whose administration sued multiple crypto companies, arguing they were not complying with SEC rules.
