Whoopi Goldberg is heading back to the small screen with another major acting role.

The Oscar-winning actress has joined Netflix’s upcoming comedy “Women Like Us,” alongside a group of Hollywood veterans that includes Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox.

The movie will also mark Goldberg and Lewis’ first on-screen collaboration since the 1999 television comedy “Jackie’s Back!” Production is expected to begin later this year, while a release date has yet to be announced.

Production is set to begin later this year on Netflix’s upcoming comedy “Women Like Us,” starring Whoopi Goldberg, Jenifer Lewis, Vanessa Williams, and Vivica A. Fox.

The film also boasts an impressive creative team behind the scenes, with former First Lady Michelle Obama serving as an executive producer through Higher Ground and Tasha Smith, known for directing series such as “Bel-Air” and “Harlem,” at the helm.

“[Women Like Us] follows a recently widowed woman who is dragged to the Hamptons by her lifelong best friends and sister on what should have been her 30th wedding anniversary. The weekend becomes a reckoning with grief, marriage, and the sisterhood that’s carried them throughout the years, as well as the realization that dreams don’t have an expiration date,” reads Netflix’s synopsis.

Fans Can’t Wait For ‘Women Like Us’

Although Goldberg has yet to comment publicly on the project, her co-star Fox shared the news on Instagram by posting a promotional poster featuring the film’s cast and director.

“SURPRISE! #AnotherOne I’m absolutely THRILLED to share this news! Dawlings my NEW @netflix film ‘Women Like Us,’” the actress wrote. “Stay tuned for more info.”

The announcement quickly delighted fans, who flooded the comments section with praise for the star-studded cast.

“WHOA! Heavy hitter,” one fan wrote, while another commented, “Omggggg what an AMAZING cast!!! Congratulations, beautiful.”

“This is going to be awesome. Congratulations to all,” another person added, while a fourth remarked, “This is going to be off the CHARTS!!!”

For Goldberg and Lewis, “Women Like Us” marks their first on-screen reunion since the 1999 television comedy “Jackie’s Back!”

Their working relationship stretches back even further, with the pair previously appearing together in “Sister Act” (1992) and the 1994 drama “Corrina, Corrina.” Off-screen, they have also remained close, with Lewis making several guest appearances on “The View,” which Goldberg has co-hosted for nearly two decades.

Meanwhile, Williams and Fox will also reunite on screen, marking their first collaboration in nearly three decades after starring together in the 1997 family drama “Soul Food,” written and directed by George Tillman Jr.

Goldberg’s Life Story Heads To The Big Screen

After contributing to more than 20 documentary projects throughout her career, Goldberg is now set to become the subject of her first feature-length documentary.

“Tracing Goldberg’s rise along with unadorned, observational vérité of her today, through a window into her world never before granted. In the documentary, Goldberg takes us behind the scenes as she reimagines her groundbreaking 1984 Broadway debut one-woman show “The Whoopi Monologues” for Lincoln Center while balancing work with her producing partner of more than 30 years, Tom Leonardis, developing new theater projects, spending time with her family and her new great-grandbaby, and building a quieter parallel life in Italy,” reads a release obtained by Deadline.

The documentary will combine archival footage, performance clips, and personal materials from Goldberg’s life. Told in her own words, it promises to offer an intimate look at the Oscar winner’s personal and professional journey.

Goldberg’s documentary will be produced by Imagine Documentaries and Message Pictures, with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Geeta Gandbhir directing.

Around the time the project was announced, Goldberg told viewers on “The View” what they could expect from the documentary.

“I think of myself very differently than other people do, so it’s an opportunity, I guess, for people to learn more about me,” the TV personality said. She also addressed what she described as the biggest misconception about herself, saying many people assume she is “one thing.”

“I am many different things and think in many different ways,” she added. “Sometimes I’m right, and sometimes I’m wrong, but I don’t mind saying, ‘Hey, I was wrong.’”
