Fans have been tuning into Wheel of Fortune for decades. Over the years, they’ve seen multiple changes happen on the show, as well as faces come and go. However, fans recently called on the show to make one change reflecting something they’ve noticed during recent episodes.
Some Wheel Of Fortune Fans Took To Social Media To Respond To A Recent Petition
Wheel of Fortune, which was created by Merv Griffin, has been running since 1975. The syndicated evening version came out in 1983.
Over the years, viewers have seen multiple figures host the show. This includes Chuck Woolery, Pat Sajak, and Ryan Seacrest, with Seacrest joining Wheel of Fortune in 2024.
Recently, however, fans have taken to social media to ask for a change to the show’s format. More to the point, some fans feel that the show should undo a certain change they’ve noticed in recent episodes.
Taking to Reddit, one fan took issue with the show’s buzzer, feeling it took too much time from the players. They wrote, “Back in the day, there was sometimes enough time to complete the puzzle after the Triple Tossup, but that never happens anymore. Please, for the love of good television, someone from production needs to insist that the final puzzle buzzer be eliminated and the puzzle after the triple toss-up be permanently considered as the final puzzle. Enough with the buzzer.”
A few fans have since responded to the suggestion. One common thread appeared in quite a few of the responses: the show might not have as much time as the players need because too much time was being spent on conversations and banter with the contestants.
A Few Fans Feel That There Is A Method To The Way The Show Is Paced
Some viewers felt that Ryan Seacrest was to blame, with some feeling that he likes to talk to players. Others suggested a conspiracy theory of sorts, that the show was intentionally doing this to give players less time during the final games.
On the other hand, some were more sympathetic towards the people running the show. As they pointed out, given the show’s format, the producers might not know how long a show will run. Thanks to this, they have to have as much material as they need to work with.
Ultimately, fans shared a number of different responses to the post. Some comments included:
- “They should shorten the contestant interviews and maybe axe one of the toss-up puzzles. Maybe then they’ll have at least some time to play round four. This past season, it became so predictable. Round four was guaranteed to begin with the final spin.”
- “Seacrest seems to love bantering with the players, so the intros go longer. I really don’t care that contestant #2’s passion is baked beans (or whatever), so [I fast-forward] through the intros.”
- “I believe they lengthened the interviews just to eliminate the possibility of one more puzzle. Saves money, and they don’t have to reduce the advertising rates.”
- “You don’t know how long a game of WoF will [run.] You could have three snipers, or you could have three dumba**es staring at PROPER NAME: _RAD PITT and start working their way through the Zs and Xs. I think as a result, the format has to be a little loose to account for that.”
