In a one-sided contest at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Gujarat Titans outclassed Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs in Match 52 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. After being asked to bat first, Gujarat piled up a daunting 229/4 in 20 overs courtesy of a magnificent knock from skipper Shubman Gill and valuable contributions from Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar. In reply, Rajasthan Royals were bundled out for 152 in just 16.3 overs as Rashid Khan and Jason Holder ran through the batting order.
Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan set the tone for Gujarat Titans
After Rajasthan Royals captain elected to bowl first, Gujarat Titans openers Gill and Sudharsan gave their side a dream start. The pair attacked from the beginning and kept the scoreboard moving with elegant strokeplay and aggressive intent.
Sudharsan played a fluent innings of 55 off 36 balls, smashing six boundaries and two sixes. He rotated strike effectively and allowed Gill to dominate during the middle overs. Gill, meanwhile, looked in complete control throughout his innings and punished anything loose from the Rajasthan bowlers.
The Gujarat skipper hammered 84 runs off just 44 deliveries, striking nine fours and three sixes. His timing through the off-side and fearless batting against pace ensured Gujarat maintained a strong run rate throughout the innings.
After Sudharsan’s dismissal, Gujarat continued the momentum through Washington Sundar, who produced a quickfire 37 from 20 balls with three sixes. Towards the end, Rahul Tewatia delivered the finishing touch with a blazing cameo of 14 runs off only four balls, including two massive sixes. Gujarat Titans eventually finished at a commanding 229/4, leaving Rajasthan Royals with a mountain to climb.
The Rajasthan Royals bowling attack endured a difficult evening as almost every bowler leaked runs. Jofra Archer went wicketless and conceded 46 runs in his three overs, while Tushar Deshpande gave away 52 runs in four overs. Youngster Brijesh Sharma managed to pick up two wickets but was expensive, conceding 47 runs. Ravindra Jadeja and Yash Raj Punja chipped in with one wicket each, but the Royals never managed to slow Gujarat’s batting charge.
Early wickets derail Rajasthan Royals chase
Chasing 230, Rajasthan Royals suffered an early setback when Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for just three runs. However, young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi briefly ignited hopes with a fearless innings. The youngster smashed 36 runs off only 16 balls, hitting three fours and three sixes. Dhruv Jurel also entertained the crowd with a rapid 24 from 10 deliveries, but Gujarat kept striking at regular intervals.
Shimron Hetmyer failed to make an impact, while the middle order collapsed under scoreboard pressure. Jadeja fought hard with 38 runs off 25 balls and Dasun Shanaka added 16, but the required run rate kept climbing rapidly. Once Rashid Khan entered the attack, Rajasthan’s resistance completely faded. The Afghan spinner produced a brilliant spell of 4/33 in four overs, deceiving the batters with his variations and accuracy. Jason Holder provided excellent support by claiming 3 wickets for just 12 runs in 2.3 overs, wrapping up the innings efficiently. Kagiso Rabada also chipped in with two wickets as Rajasthan Royals were bowled out for 152.

Shubman Gill the captain against Rajasthan Royals:
– Gill was hobbling in the 8th over when he was batting on 38, but still went on to score 84.
– If he wanted, he could have gone back to the dugout because Gujarat Titans hadn’t even lost a wicket, but he stayed, scored crucial… pic.twitter.com/h98ex25Y5Y— GillTheWill (@GillTheWill77) May 9, 2026
Shubman Gil has been outstanding this season with bat in his hand & captain’s hat on his head.

Shubman Gill makes impact with the bat in every format he plays, as captain he has only added to that impact.
GT has found his captaincy to be the difference in their performance.
