Janai Norman recently made her exit from GMA Weekend early last month. Since then, fans have been asking questions about the story, including what’s next for her. Recently, during an interview, she already had a big career announcement to make.
Janai Norman Was Previously Named A Co-Anchor On GMA Weekend In 2022
As a journalist, Janai is known for her work with Good Morning America‘s weekend show. She served as the host of “Pop News” for the weekend edition in 2019.
By 2022, Norman had been promoted to co-anchor of GMA Weekend. However, after her contract wasn’t renewed, she announced her departure from the show in early April.
Following her exit after 15 years with ABC, Norman spoke with People about what’s next. At the time, she revealed an upcoming memoir, Breaking, which is set to be released on January 5.
The memoir will follow Janai’s journey as a journalist. This will include a lot of struggles during her life, including being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2022 and enduring the loss of her grandmother. This will also look at times when her career took her unexpected places, like a time when she volunteered to cover a hurricane.
Norman Shared The Struggles She Faced Helped Her Develop Perspective
Janai admitted, “I was not equipped at all to handle what all that I’d been given. I was basically breaking under the weight of it all.”
As she continued, Janai also felt that these issues helped her see the divide between her work life and her own well-being. She shared, “It really helped me separate my worth from my work. What I did for a paycheck was no longer tied to my sense of purpose. That was really the work of choosing myself and breaking news barriers and stigmas along the way.”
During the conversation with the outlet, Norman also weighed in on her GMA exit. Opening up, she looked at her time with the network fondly. She shared, “I loved my time at ABC. It was such a gift. I had so much fun, so many incredible experiences, and it was such a dream come true for me. Because of the way my experience unfolded, viewers were there with me every step of the way.”
Norman continued, “I wish I’d had a sendoff that honored the connections that I had with so many of my coworkers, and most importantly, the viewers. But this book gets to take you behind the scenes of some of those years… I’m really looking forward to being able to share another perspective of that same story.”
As previously reported, Norman still had the support of her co-workers even after leaving the show. She was recently seen going out to dinner with a bunch of her GMA Weekend crew, complete with a social media tribute.
