If you love movies, you’re in the right place — welcome to The Chronicle, the official film podcast of The Peoples Movies! In episode 58, Paul and Nick Bartlett dive into two unsettling new horror films, Curry Barker’s Obsession and Damian McCarthy’s Hokum.
First up is Obsession, the latest horror from filmmaker Curry Barker. After the breakout success of his YouTube found-footage chiller Milk & Serial, can Barker successfully make the leap to the big screen? The film stars Michael Johnston as Bear, a shy and mild-mannered music store employee who secretly has feelings for his co-worker Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette. Desperate to finally ask her out, Bear purchases a mysterious “Wish Me A Willow” that promises to grant wishes. However, as Bear soon discovers, you should always be careful what you wish for…
We also couldn’t let Damian McCarthy’s Hokum pass by without discussing it. The film stars Adam Scott as Ohm, a struggling writer who travels to Ireland and checks into the same hotel where his parents once stayed. Carrying their ashes with him, Ohm hopes returning to the last place they were truly happy will inspire him to finally complete his latest book. But as strange events begin to unfold, his trip becomes far more unsettling than he ever imagined.
Join Paul and Nick as they discuss both films, exploring the scares, performances, atmosphere, and whether these latest horror releases are worth your time.
