Disney and Pixar have just dropped the poster and first trailer for Gatto, Pixar’s 32nd feature animated film, which “takes viewers into the feline-run underbelly of Venice, Italy.” The film features the voice work of Marvel’s Mark Ruffalo and The Matrix’s Laurence Fishburne, with Enrico Casarosa directing and Andrea Warren producing.
Gatto focuses on Nero, who “begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives…after years of manoeuvring the canal-ridden, superstitious city of Venice, Italy“.
“Indebted to Rocco, the local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose—unless Venice gets the better of him first.”
Casarosa and Warren previously worked together on Pixar’s 24th release, Luca.
The studio’s recent releases include Daniel Chong’s Hoppers, Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi and Adrian Molina’s Elio and Kelsey Mann’s Inside Out 2. They are also anticipating the release of Andrew Stanton and Kenna Harris‘ Toy Story 5, the fifth installment in their beloved Toy Story series, which kickstarted the studio in 1995 and Peter Sohn’s The Incredibles 3, the second sequel to 2004’s The Incredibles.
Through their contribution to animation and family films, Pixar currently holds 485 award wins from 1103 nominations since their 1986 start. These awards include eighteen Academy Awards, eleven Grammy Awards and ten Golden Globe Awards. Their feature debut, Toy Story, is historically significant for being the first feature release to use computer animation only.
Meanwhile, Disney Animation Studios’ recent releases include the sequels to Moana and Zootopia, as well as the original musical Wish and the action-adventure Strange World. Their upcoming releases include a third Frozen film and the magical, coming-of-age comedy Hexed.
Gatto hits cinemas in March 2027.
