    The 43rd Munich International Film Festival unveils its full programme

    The 43rd Munich International Film Festival unveils its full programme

    17/06/2026 – The German gathering’s line-up features 130 premieres from 56 countries across multiple competition sections, including one in which the €100,000 CineCoPro Award will be handed out

    The 43rd Munich International Film Festival, running from 26 June-5 July, will showcase 130 premieres from 56 countries. With screenings across 12 venues, the festival features competition sections such as CineCoPro, CineMasters, CineVision, CineRebels and CineKindl, alongside New German Cinema (see the news) and New German Television Productions. All films will be screened in Germany for the first time, with 45 world, 11 international and eight European premieres taking place in Munich.

    Artistic directors Christoph Gröner and Julia Weigl commented: “We love having a mixture of truly independent cinema and big-budget entertainment that appeals to both the mind and the soul. We hope this selection will delight audiences just as much as it has the programming team at the Munich International Film Festival. The line-up offers something for every taste, and the festival brings cinema to everyone.”

    Twelve international co-productions will compete for this year’s CineCoPro Award, endowed with a €100,000 cash prize. The selection includes Paweł Pawlikowski’s opening film Fatherland, Sandra Wollner’s Cannes prize winner Everytime, Valeska Grisebach’s The Dreamed Adventure, Konstantina Kotzamani’s mythical coming-of-age tale Titanic Ocean, Christian Bonke’s drama Hercules Falling, Harald Sicheritz’s political biopic Bruno – The Young Kreisky, Tina Gharavi’s literary adaptation Virginia Woolf’s Night & Day, Rubika Shah’s documentary The Mad Dog of Europe, Jaume Claret Muxart’s Strange River, Cristina Diz and Stefan Butzmühlen’s The Guests, Ana-Felicia Scutelnicu’s Transit Times, and Jono Bergmann and Benji Bergmann’s music documentary Noga.

    The CineMasters Competition presents 12 titles showcasing acclaimed international auteur cinema. The selection includes The Man I Love by Ira Sachs, All of a Sudden by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, Gentle Monster by Marie Kreutzer, Two Pianos by Arnaud Desplechin, I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning by Clio Barnard, If I Go Will They Miss Me by Walter Thompson-Hernández, Double Freedom by Lisandro Alonso, Landmarks by Lucrecia Martel, Forever Your Maternal Animal by Valentina Maurel, The Sun Rises On Us All by Shangjun Cai, Shame and Money by Visar Morina and Chasing Summer by Josephine Decker.

    In the CineVision Competition, which highlights fresh and compelling perspectives in international cinema, 12 titles are locking horns. Among them are Ah Girl by Geck Geck Priscilla Ang, Daydreaming Lullabies by Ehsan Noortaqani, Too Many Beasts by Sarah Arnold, Extra Geography by Molly Manners, A Girl Unknown by Jing Zou, Elder Son by Cecilia Kang, Hot Water by Ramzi Bashour, Low Expectations by Eivind Landsvik, My Semba by Hugo Salvaterra, Sicko by Aitore Zholdaskali, Keep Me in Mind by Alberto Palmiero and Ugly Cry by Emily Robinson.

    As for the CineRebels Competition, dedicated to bold and innovative cinema, it features 12 titles. This year’s line-up includes Affection Affection by Alexia Walther and Maxime Matray, Erupcja by Pete Ohs, Hair, Paper, Water… by Nicolas Graux and Minh Quý Trương, The Ivy by Ana Cristina Barragán, If Only the Year Had 364 Days by Almourad Aldeeb, The Illusion of a Quiet Night by Olga Chernykh, Krakatoa by Carlos Casas, Moodswing Whiskey by Skinner Myers, Death Has No Master by Jorge Thielen Armand, Rose of Nevada by Mark Jenkin, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma by Jane Schoenbrun and Two Neighbors by Ondine Viñao.

    US actor David Duchovny will be honoured with the CineMerit Award for his outstanding contributions to the art of film. The prize will be presented in conjunction with the international premiere of Jay Duplass’s closing film See You When I See You. Also, among the guests expected in Munich are Pedro Almodóvar, Ira Sachs, Sandra Hüller, Haley Bennett and Toni Servillo, who will receive the CineMerit Award for his outstanding achievements in the cinematic arts.
