South Africa Women edged past Pakistan Women by two wickets in Match 11 of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Edgbaston, successfully chasing 127 with 19 balls to spare. A superb 52-run knock from Annerie Dercksen proved to be the difference in a thrilling contest, earning her the Player of the Match award.

Fatima Sana rescues Pakistan after top-order collapse

Pakistan Women elected to bat first but suffered a nightmare start as Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza were dismissed for just one run on the board. The wickets continued to tumble with Ayesha Zafar, Natalia Pervaiz, Iram Javed and Aliya Riaz unable to make substantial contributions, leaving the innings in trouble. Captain Fatima Sana then led from the front with a fighting 55 off 38 deliveries, hammering six fours and two sixes to revive Pakistan’s innings. She found useful support from Tuba Hassan, who contributed 23 runs, helping the side recover to post 126/9 in their 20 overs.

South Africa’s bowlers kept Pakistan under pressure despite Fatima’s resistance. Marizanne Kapp delivered an excellent spell, finishing with 3/23 from her four overs to emerge as the pick of the attack. Shabnim Ismail claimed one wicket while conceding only 15 runs, and Ayabonga Khaka also chipped in with a scalp as the Proteas restricted Pakistan to a below-par total.

Annerie Dercksen and Nadine de Klerk anchor tricky chase

The run chase got off to an unsteady start with Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus falling cheaply. Pakistan continued to strike at regular intervals, removing Kapp and Chloe Tryon to keep the pressure firmly on South Africa. Dercksen responded with a brilliant counterattack, scoring 52 runs from just 35 balls with seven boundaries and two sixes. Nadine de Klerk complemented her perfectly with a fluent 37 off 28 deliveries, adding valuable runs that brought South Africa within touching distance of victory. Pakistan refused to surrender despite defending a modest total. Fatima capped off an outstanding all-round performance by taking 3/16, while Sadia Iqbal and Tuba picked up two wickets each to trigger late drama. Nashra Sandhu also claimed a wicket as South Africa lost wickets in clusters during the closing stages.

Despite the late setbacks, South Africa crossed the finish line at 127/8 in 16.5 overs to seal a hard-fought two-wicket win. The result gives the Proteas valuable momentum in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, while Pakistan can take positives from the all-round brilliance of Fatima despite ending on the losing side. Dercksen’s composed half-century under pressure stood out as the defining performance of the match, making her a deserving recipient of the Player of the Match award.
