Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the leading 2028 Democratic presidential primary pick in a new survey, receiving twice as many votes as former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez was favored for the presidency by 26% in the poll. That topped former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (22.4%), California Gov. Gavin Newsom (21.2%) and Ms. Harris (12.9%).
The poll by AtlasIntel, a Brazil-based data intelligence firm, gave respondents 13 Democrats to pick from in a 2028 Democratic presidential primary.
Ms. Ocacio-Cortez, a far-left Democrat from New York who shot to national prominence when elected to the House in 2018, has not ruled out a presidential run. In a discussion with Democratic strategist David Axelrod last Friday, she said her ambition is “way bigger” than a specific seat or title.
“What’s funny is they assume my ambition is a title or a seat. My ambition is to change this country,” she said, adding that while “presidents come and go,” policy changes are “forever.”
She also didn’t shut the door on a run for U.S. Senate, which would put her against Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat.
Other prominent Democrats bested by Ms. Ocasio-Cortez in the poll included Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (4.1%), Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey (3.9%), Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (2.4%) and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (1.1%).
The crowd of Democrats scoring less than 1% included Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Rep. Ro Khanna of California, former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore.
Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia received no votes, and just over 3% of respondents chose none of the above, according to the pollsters.
As for who is favored to be on the Republican ticket, Secretary of State Marco Rubio well surpassed Vice President J.D. Vance.
With Mr. Rubio at 45.4% and Mr. Vance at 29.6%, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis came in third with 11.2% of the vote. None of the above captured 10.3% of the vote.
Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican nominee for Ohio governor, received 1.4% of the votes. Those garnering less than 1% included Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and President Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr.
AtlasIntel conducted the survey of 2,069 American adults between May 4 and May 7.
