Canada’s F1 weekend is right around the corner on May 24, and there are going to be a lot of motorsport fans in the city for the Grand Prix.
With that in mind, Bell has announced that it has improved its mobile networks ahead of the race weekend in order to handle the influx of usage.
Essentially, Bell boosted overall network capacity in the city by 20 per cent, focusing upgrades on key Grand Prix sites, enhanced connectivity in the high-traffic fan zone Village area (food tents and visitor services), and adding extra spectrum in the Paddock and Grandstands to boost speed and responsiveness.
The telecom giant also noted that it has added 81 new cell sites since 2024, with 56 more planned for this year.
Bell has also brought in Cell-on-wheels and put them in the paddocks, grand stands, and southern stands to add more localized capacity. Bell’s main competitor, Rogers, used a similar strategy recently, deploying Cells on Wheels and Cells on Light around Toronto for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to handle peak network usage.
Alongside these upgrades, Bell has expanded the use of high-value spectrum assets to manage peak usage, and support what the telecom giant describes as “seamless streaming, gaming, and real-time sharing.” I imagine most of the usage will come from users Facetiming loved ones and accessing social media.
