Eric Braeden is famous for bringing Victor Newman to life on The Young and the Restless. However, he’s going to bring the character to another soap in an upcoming crossover event. Recently, Braeden opened up about appearing on another soap, as well as stories currently impacting his character back in Genoa City.
This Isn’t The First Time Eric Braeden Has Portrayed Victor Newman Outside Of The Young & The Restless
Braeden is known for playing Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless. He was offered the role in 1980 in which was originally meant to be a 26-week run. However, the character’s popularity has kept him on the soap over the ensuing decades.
There have been times when fans have seen Braeden as Victor in places other than on The Young and the Restless. Back in 1999, he appeared as the character for four episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful.
Recently, it’s been announced that The Young and the Restless will be having a crossover with another soap. In the upcoming storyline, Victor will travel across the country on the invitation of an old friend: Beyond the Gates‘ Vernon Dupree, as played by Clifton Davis.
Braeden Particularly Felt That A Soap Like Beyond The Gates Was ‘Sorely Needed’
According to the storyline, Victor has supported Vernon’s political campaigns over the years. Meanwhile, Vernon has promoted legislation helping Newman Enterprises. Now, Victor is set to deliver the keynote speech at a political fundraiser for Martin Richardson on Vernon’s behalf.
Braeden reportedly agreed to go to Atlanta to film on the soap. In a recent conversation with TV Insider, he shared that he was more than happy to participate with the story. He shared, “Danielle Unger [vice president of current programming, CBS] asked me, and I like and respect her, and I said, ‘OK.’ I think a Black soap is sorely needed; it’s about time, so I said, ‘Let’s go.’”
While working on the story, Braeden was happy to learn that the Beyond the Gates cast was excited to work with him. He shared, “That’s so nice to know. I am happy to hear it, but I don’t let it really sink in because I’ve known people who have allowed that to happen, and it changes them too much.
Braden continued, “I will be damned if that happens to me, so I don’t take it too seriously. I have seen some dreadful stories where you don’t recognize someone anymore after they believe all the publicity. They don’t remain who they are.”
Braeden Also Weighed In On Recent Stories On The Young & The Restless
Looking back at his career over the years, Braeden pointed out that his early acting career was made up of guest roles. He noted, “The only thing you get tired of is the travel and the location.” However, he was happy to work with the Beyond the Gates cast in his latest guest role. They’re really very warm, wonderful people, and that makes you feel good.” Braeden even teased that he was more than comfortable on the soap, adding that he endured “no nerves at all.”
Viewers will see Braeden on Beyond the Gates on June 9. Meanwhile, Braeden has also been busy with ongoing stories in Genoa City, such as Nick Newman’s recent addiction storyline or growing tensions between Victor and Nikki Newman. Braeden recently shared that the scene where Nick came clean to Victor about his struggles was “a wonderful scene.”

As for the ongoing story between Victor and Nikki, Braeden noted, “The point with the Victor and Nikki story is that it’s simply about the green monster. It’s jealousy.” Feeling jealous of the interactions between Nikki and Jack Abbott, “He thinks it’s disingenuous on Nikki’s part to pretend that everything is fine. No, it’s not, because Victor still suspects they had something to do in that hotel room, period. He has never been convinced otherwise.”
