There was an open timeslot in daytime television in 2022 when The Wendy Williams Show was canceled amid the host’s health issues. However, Sherri Shepherd’s show didn’t bring in the same ratings.
It was canceled earlier this year, around the same time Kelly Clarkson announced she was ending her talk show. Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Hudson’s shows both got renewals.
Gayle King Shocks Sherri Shepherd During Final Show
Gayle King was a regular guest on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show. It was there that the CBS News anchor addressed rumors that she was leaving the network. She surprised her good friend on April 30, 2026, when Sherri filmed its last live episode of the show. Pre-recorded episodes will continue to air for a few more months.
It’s been a running joke between Sherri Shepherd and Gayle King for years that the TV hosts often show up to events in the same outfits. So, of course, Gayle King had to honor that tradition by showing up to Sherri in the exact same outfit as the host.
The two wore custom Bruce Glen dresses. The multi-colored form-fitting dress was blue at the top, transforming to pink and neon green at the bottom. The hosts finished the look off with neon green heels.
Right before Gayle King’s surprise entrance, Sherri Shepherd was showing past instances of them showing up in the same dress. “I’m convinced that Gayle has a vision board in her house, and it is just pictures of me,” she joked to the audience.
When Gayle King came out, flowers in hand, she quipped, “**tch stole my look.” Sherri Shepherd’s shock quickly turned to joy as the two embraced. Gayle King opened up about the surprise on social media.
She explained that her team and Sherri Shepherd’s team planned the surprise. Gayle King praised the daytime talk show host. “I can’t imagine daytime TV without Sherri. There’s nobody like her on the air and here’s hoping she’s back on TV with a new show sooner rather than later,” she wrote.
