The manufacturing industry is getting an update to its training. Google is spending US$10 million (about C$13.7 million) to provide AI training for the manufacturing industry.
According to the Manufacturing Institute (MI), 82 per cent of workers and 87 per cent of leadership do not have the proficiency in AI needed to keep up with the increasing demand. Meanwhile, more than 50 per cent of manufacturers use AI in their operations. The training sessions are designed to increase AI proficiency for trainees at all levels and are specifically designed for the manufacturing industry.
For the many manufacturing employees who are creating technology components, including servers, computing chips, networking infrastructure, and more, the increase in AI training can provide the tools and expertise to make manufacturing faster, easier and more efficient.
The new training comes in two courses: AI 101 for Manufacturing and AI for Manufacturing Technicians. AI 101 is Google’s existing AI training adapted for the needs of manufacturing environments. AI for Manufacturing Technicians aims to “help technical experts apply and unlock AI’s potential.”
The MI will also launch new Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME USA) chapters in 15 new regions in the state, bringing their total training locations to over 60 across the U.S.
