People regularly talk about the perfect trilogy. Some say it’s Back To The Future, and others say it doesn’t exist. However, that could soon change with Netflix’s recent announcement that Grown Ups 3 is coming.
It’s been 13 years since the sequel, and 16 years since the original, but that hasn’t stopped Adam Sandler from returning to the beloved franchise. For those that don’t know, the franchise follows five childhood friends (Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Sandler) who reunite for a 4th July Weekend after 30 years apart, with the sequel following a similar plot. The original film earned $271 million at the worldwide box office (becoming Sandler’s highest-grossing movie outside the animated Hotel Transylvania franchise), and the sequel was not far behind with $247 million.
While it is rumoured that at least the core five actors of the franchise will return for the threequel, the streamer did not confirm any casting news as part of the announcement. They did, however, confirm that Sandler will be co-writing alongside Tim Herlihy, after penning Grown Ups 2 together. With Adam Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, and Herlihy producing alongside Kevin Grady and Judit Maull as executive producers. Kyle Newacheck, who recently did Happy Gilmore 2, will direct.
The film marks the latest project in Sandler’s decade-long partnership with Netflix, where he has made lots of streaming movies like Murder Mystery and Hubie Halloween, as well as legacy sequels to his classic films.
That’s all the information we have at this stage, but we will be ready to report when more news breaks about this potentially cinema-changing announcement.
