Howard Stern recently came under fire for letting go of a handful of his loyal staff. The iconic shock jock still has a little over two years left on his SiriusXM contract, so this was a big blow. Now, he is being slammed for not stepping up for the newly unemployed staffers. Keep reading for more on what people have to say.
Howard Stern Does Nothing
Every few years, it seems like Howard Stern may retire or give up his radio show. Then, he signs a multi-year contract, and fans are happy all over again. They love what he brings to the table, as he has been a shock jock for decades. Getting guests to let their guards down has been one of his many talents, plus they feel comfortable being interviewed by him. Unfortunately, he is under a microscope now that several staffers have been fired and essentially left with nothing.
The belief is that Howard has more than enough money to take care of everyone he values. However, he has not done that, per a source:
“You’d think Howard would have been generous with these guys, some who worked for him for decades, but nope! Each decade of service to the show got just two months of severance, and a horrible NDA saying they’ll lose even that if they say a f***ing word.”
Those who were axed are Benjy Bronk, Memet Walker, Jon Blitt, and Mike Trainor. Now, Benjy Bronk worked for Howard for almost thirty years, and they were among the dozen who were let go. The anger toward Howard Stern seems warranted given that he is worth an estimated $650 and $750 million. Therefore, the belief is that he could have dug into his pockets if he really cared:
“He’s a millionaire who got there with the help of his team, it’s incredible that these guys, who are all older, have to go and hit the pavement when they should be simply focused on retirement.”
A Harsh Ending
To add insult to injury, the Howard Stern firings allegedly happened via Zoom call. This is an extremely impersonal way to be let go from a longtime job. At the same time, it has been alleged that the show is on the verge of cancellation. Despite a new contract, there could be fewer show days, which would likely be fine with Howard. After the firings, show fans immediately chimed in, and they were not happy with how this was handled. Were they surprised? Not really, but still livid:
