David Robert Mitchell, writer and director of films such as It Follows and Under the Silver Lake, is reportedly being brought in to write the third instalment of the Five Nights at Freddy’s films.
The Mitchell news was made clear by Jonny Blox, who reported that Skeet Ulrich appeared at Sinister Creature Con and said, “We’re waiting on the third script to make the third film. The guy who wrote ‘It Follows’ is writing it right now, apparently, it’s a lot of Matthew Lillard and I.”
Based on the hit video game series, these films were first brought to life in 2023 and again in 2025. Both films are directed by Emma Tammi and written by Scott Cawthon, the creator of the games.
Despite being major box office successes, with the first film making $297 million off of a $20 million budget, and the sequel making $240 million off of a $36 million budget, both films have been panned by critics, receiving vastly negative reviews, saying that the screenplay is a big hindrance to any possible progress that could’ve been made.
The first two films starred The Hunger Games icon Josh Hutcherson, as well as Scream legend Matthew Lillard.
Mitchell is about to return to the big screen, after a long absence, with the Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor starring dinosaur film, The End of Oak Street, which releases in cinemas worldwide on August 14th.
