24/06/2026 – The development programme for feature-length science documentaries has extended its submission deadline to 30 June and will select eight projects for a two-residency workshop in the Czech Republic

A previous edition of Camp 4Science

Camp 4Science, the international development and networking workshop dedicated to feature-length science documentary projects, has extended the deadline for applications to its 2026 edition until 30 June. Organised by the Academia Film Olomouc (AFO) festival, the programme supports filmmakers developing documentary projects inspired by scientific ideas, research and innovation.

Originally launched in 2013, Camp 4Science is designed to encourage the creation of new science documentaries, foster professional development and help projects advance to the next stage of development. The initiative is open to a broad range of science-focused documentary projects, from films exploring cutting-edge scientific discoveries to more artistic works inspired by scientific concepts and questions.

The programme is now expanding into a two-residency format, allowing for more sustained project development. Eight projects will be selected to participate in an autumn residency taking place at Statek Salajna in the Czech Republic from 20-25 September 2026, followed by a spring residency held during the AFO festival in Olomouc from 26 April-1 May 2027.

Camp 4Science is aimed at producers and directors developing feature-length documentary projects with a scientific dimension. Applicants may come from documentary filmmaking backgrounds or from scientific and science-communication fields, while seeking to explore audiovisual storytelling. Projects can address any area of human knowledge and research, including life sciences, technology, philosophy, history and environmental issues.

The workshop is conducted in English, and combines group sessions, master classes, one-on-one consultations and networking activities. Participants will receive tailored guidance from international mentors on storytelling, visual style, financing, co-production opportunities, pitching and distribution strategies. The programme also facilitates exchanges with scientists, academics and science communicators from the Czech Republic and abroad.

The workshop culminates in public project presentations during the AFO festival, where selected teams will pitch their projects to an audience of producers, broadcasters, distributors, festival representatives and members of the scientific community. Participants will also benefit from direct access to the festival’s international industry platform and networking opportunities.

Among the awards available is the Sandbox Best Pitch Award, presented in partnership with Sandbox Films. The winning project will receive $25,000 in development funding. In addition, one project will be selected for the CPH:DOX Industry Prize, which includes two complimentary accreditations to either CPH:FORUM or INTRO:DOX, depending on the profile of the winning team.

Participation in Camp 4Science is free of charge. Accommodation and travel expenses are covered by the organisers, and selected participants are required to attend both residential sessions. Further information about the programme and application requirements can be found on the Camp 4Science website.
