West Indies have unveiled a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan, with one of their premier fast bowlers set to miss the contest. While much of the group that recently defeated Sri Lanka has been retained, a couple of fresh faces have earned opportunities after impressive domestic performances as the Caribbean side looks to continue its upward momentum in the ICC World Test Championship.

Alzarri Joseph unavailable, Joshua Bishop earns maiden opportunity

The biggest talking point from the squad announcement is the absence of fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, who will not feature in the two-match series due to personal reasons. Joseph has been one of West Indies’ most reliable performers with the ball during the current World Test Championship cycle, making his unavailability a significant setback for the hosts.

In his absence, left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop has received a well-deserved call-up after consistently delivering standout performances in domestic cricket. The 26-year-old has built a strong reputation in the West Indies Championship, claiming 119 wickets in just 25 first-class matches at an impressive average of 23.90. Bishop has also emerged as the leading wicket-taker across the last three editions of the regional first-class competition, collecting 91 wickets during that period. His inclusion adds another spin option to the squad, especially valuable on surfaces that could offer assistance to slow bowlers as the series progresses.

The West Indies have largely backed the core group that secured a 1-0 Test series victory over Sri Lanka earlier this month, signalling confidence in the players who contributed to that success.

Kirk McKenzie returns after prolific domestic season

Another notable inclusion is top-order batter Kirk McKenzie, who returns to the national setup following an outstanding run in Jamaica’s domestic campaign. The left-handed batter accumulated 323 runs in just six innings at an excellent average of 64.60, forcing his way back into contention through consistent performances. McKenzie comes into the squad after John Campbell was ruled out with a left hamstring injury sustained during the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand. His return strengthens the batting department and provides the selectors with another dependable top-order option.

Meanwhile, right-arm seamer Anderson Phillip has been left out after featuring in the second Test against Sri Lanka. The decision reflects the selectors’ willingness to reward recent domestic form while maintaining competition for places within the pace attack. The leadership group remains unchanged, with Roston Chase continuing as captain and experienced spinner Jomel Warrican serving as vice-captain.

The two-match series, scheduled from July 25 to August 6, carries added significance as both teams aim to improve their positions in the World Test Championship standings. West Indies currently have one victory from ten Tests in the ongoing cycle, while Pakistan have registered one win from four matches. With both sides sitting near the bottom of the table, every result will be crucial in building momentum for the remainder of the championship.
