Rogers has shared the results of its network performance and experience during the recently completed 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the carrier, attendees used 510TB of data at the stadiums and at surrounding events like watch parties and fan zones across the 13 World Cup matches in two cities (six in Toronto, seven in Vancouver). The telecom giant notes that this data is the equivalent of sharing 102 million photos.
Assuming roughly similar usage across all 13 games, that works out to a little more than 39TB per match. That blows other major events out of the water — for example, Rogers said the 2024 Taylor Swift Eras Tour concerts in Vancouver and Toronto used 11TB and 7.4TB, respectively. Phew, that’s a lot of data.
Similar to Bell, Rogers noted that it invested $27 million to improve and boost its connectivity in both host cities. Inside the press relese, Rogers notes that the investment went to enhancing the in-stadium wireless system (equivalent to adding 16 cell towers downtown), deploying additional 5G+ spectrum, and installing additional network infrastructure outside the stadium, which includes at fan zones, hotels and transportation hubs like Pearson International Airport, Union Station, and some TTC subway stations (not the first time Rogers has done that).
Also similar to Bell, Rogers deployed Cells on Wheels and Cells on Light Facilities to support the high-traffic areas in downtown Toronto.
Now, Rogers is releasing this info amid the current debacle with the CRTC over junk fees, and the telecom giant laying off most of its customer service staff.
