After a casting shake-up for the next film from directing duo The Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert) that saw Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) exit and quickly be replaced by Matt Damon (The Odyssey), we now have another exciting update. Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) is reportedly in talks to star opposite Damon, according to Deadline.
Whilst details on the untitled project at Universal Pictures are still under wraps, we know The Daniels and Jonathan Wang will produce the event film through their company Playgrounds’ overall deal with the studio.
Executive VP Production Development Sara Scott and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will also oversee the film for Universal, which currently has the film slated for release on November 29th, 2027.
Sandra Oh is best known for her Emmy-nominated work on Grey’s Anatomy and Killing Eve. She was most recently part of the ensemble of Good Fortune that also featured Keanu Reeves, Aziz Ansari, and Seth Rogen. The Canadian actress has also been lending her voice to the animated superhero series Invincible on Prime Video.
As for The Daniels, the Oscar-winning filmmakers were behind A24 features Swiss Army Man and Everything Everywhere All At Once, which swept the 2023 Academy Awards, including acting wins for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Jamie Lee Curtis. The film also picked up awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
Since then, the duo has directed an episode of the Star Wars series Skeleton Crew on Disney+, but has mostly spent time developing this secret project for Universal.
