    PRODUCTION / FUNDING France

    by Fabien Lemercier

07/05/2026 – The French national film body will also support the upcoming films by Jean-Bernard Marlin, Raphaël Jacoulot, Bérangère McNeese, the duo Claudine Bories-Patrice Chagnard, and four debut features

    Director Santiago Amigorena

Nine projects have been selected in the second 2026 session of the CNC’s advance on receipts. Among the three titles chosen by the first committee (fourth features and beyond) stands out the animated project Le ghetto interieur by Santiago Amigorena (who notably screened out of competition in Venice in 2006 with Quelques jours en septembre and at Giornate degli Autori in 2011 with Another Silence) and Nicolas Pawlowski, an adaptation of the former’s eponymous novel. The screenplay (penned by Santiago Amigorena and Marion Quantin) sees, in the present day, Victoire tell her granddaughter about the fate of her father, Vicente. A Polish Jew, he emigrates to Buenos Aires in 1928 and seems to have everything he needs to be happy. And yet. As the news from his mother, who stayed in Warsaw, grows ever more alarming, he experiences his loved ones’ suffering from afar. Shutting himself away in a prison of silence, Vicente keeps on living but can no longer truly exist. Until the Allies’ victory and the love of his family allow him to emerge from his inner ghetto. … Production will be handled by 2.4.7 Films with Je Suis Bien Content and Meltem Films co-producing. Luc Desportes will be in charge of the graphics.

Also among the recipients of the advance, Traverser l’orage by Raphaël Jacoulot (which will be the filmmaker’s fifth feature, appreciated among other works for Barrage and Coup de chaud). Co-written by Sophie Hiet and Marlène Poste, the film is set to be produced by TS Productions.

The 3rd committee has also selected another project overseen by TS Productions : the documentary Le temple by Claudine Bories and Patrice Chagnard (known notably for Les règles du jeu and Vedette, presented in ACID’s line-up at Cannes in 2014 and 2021).

The second committee (second and third features) has selected Sonny et ses frères, the third feature project by Jean-Bernard Marlin (who co-wrote the screenplay with Valentine Monteil) after Shéhérazade (a 2018 Cannes Critics’ Week discovery and winner of the 2019 César Awards for Best First Film and Most Promising Actress and Actor) and Salem (Cannes Un Certain Regard 2023). Production will be handled by Curiosa and Vatos Locos Productions. An advance will also go to Sainte Madeleine, which will be Belgian filmmaker Bérangère McNeese’s second feature after Les Filles du Ciel (which drew attention last year). Co-written by Laurette Polmanss, the film will be produced by Kazak Productions.

Lastly, among the four lucky recipients of the first committee (debut features) are Kathy déménage by Marie Vernalde (winner at Arras Days – read the article – and produced by Folle Allure), Furtunatu by Yannick Casanova (produced by Les Films du Bal), Viendra le jour by Nicolas Panay (produced by Les Films Norfolk) and Comme une grande by Adriana Da Fonseca (co-written by Sarah Schenkel and produced by Belleville Production).
