This week on the Today Show, familiar faces are all gone as new anchors have stepped up and in. Now, they are not necessarily completely new faces, but it seems that NBC may be testing the waters for the future. Keep reading for more details on who filled the empty seats.
Today Show Sees A Big Change
Right now, there is a lot happening at the Today Show. A male intruder made his way past security, screamed racial slurs at Craig Melvin, and attempted to get to Al Roker. Fortunately, he was apprehended and arrested, so no one was harmed. Yet, in light of Savannah Guthrie’s mother being abducted, this was terrifying. Fortunately for Savannah, she was taking off to film the first season of Wordle, so she would be leaving the drama behind. Craig Melvin was also scheduled for a break, which also came at the perfect time.
Carson Daly has also gone MIA, but he may be filming Season 30 of The Voice. That is set to premiere on September 21st on NBC. Then, there is Al Roker, who was gone for no reason, but he has been celebrating with his family lately. Plus, it is summer, which is when the anchors tend to take off. Therefore, Dylan Dreyer, Sheinelle Jones, and Willie Geist have stepped up for the main anchors, and this could be a prelude. It is unclear how long Savannah will want to stick around or if she will come and go. There have also been some rumors about Craig being unhappy with his spot on Today.
Viewers love a good change, and they did not mind seeing Willie Geist at the center of it all. In fact, he was a top choice to replace Hoda Kotb alongside Jenna Bush Hager. So, to see him on Today is really a great fit.
When Will The Anchors Be Back?
As for when the Today Show anchors will be back, Savannah Guthrie noted the whole season of Wordle will be filmed at once. So, she will be out for some time. Craig Melvin is expected to be gone for a week, and Carson Daly likely will be back and forth from California. However, viewers do not seem to mind the replacement anchors and like the change. Again, Willie Geist was a top choice for Jenna’s co-host:
- Sheinelle is definitely out of her element in the 4th hour. She does much better in a more journalistic format than in a talk show format. Willie can do no wrong, and would be great wherever they put him.
- I love Willie. I think he compliments anyone he cohosts with.
It will be interesting to see if this is a test run for what is to come in the near future. Do you miss the regular anchors, or do you like the switch-up? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
