Tom Cruise has been promoting his new role in the upcoming film, Digger. However, fans were recently caught off guard by his appearance. This also comes out as Cruise talked about how different the film was for him than other projects.
Tom Cruise Recently Showed A New Look For Digger
Cruise is an actor with a career spanning decades, starting in the 1980s. He first rose to fame with films like Risky Business and Top Gun, later gaining further recognition with films like Rain Man, Interview with the Vampire, Jerry Maguire, and Mission: Impossible. Over the years, he has headlined multiple franchises.
Cruise is set to debut his first role outside of the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises since 2017’s American Made. He is starring in the upcoming film, Digger, a satirical comedy set to debut on October 2, 2026.
However, as seen in a recently released clip, Cruise is donning a whole new look for the film. For the role, the actor is donning gray hair and prosthetics that make him look older and bulkier. The character, the eponymous Digger Rockwell, is reportedly a Southern oil baron, which sees Cruise don a cowboy hat in a promotional poster.
Reputedly, Cruise’s character learns that his company might be responsible for an environmental disaster. He then “embarks on a frantic mission to prove that he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
In addition to Cruise, the film boasts an international cast. Other actors appearing in the film include Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, Emma D’Arcy and Robert John Burke.
Fans Have Also Since Been Sharing Their Reactions To Cruise’s Share
According to People, during a Q&A event in Los Angeles, Cruise shared that the film is one of the most original projects of her career. He shared, “I have never had something that could challenge me in this way, and neither has Alejandro when we went in, ever. And when you see this film, it’s totally original.”
The actor also shared a few words of praise for the film’s director, Alejandro G. Iñárritu. As he shared, “Alejandro took several days during which he was just reading the script to me, and I’m listening to everything that’s in his mind, so that I can understand that, and then I know how to contribute to it, and bring that collaboration together.”

Cruise also shared a poster of the film on social media. On X, he shared it with the caption, “Digg. Or Die. DIGGER. Only in theaters October 2.” At the time, various fans expressed their surprise at seeing the actor’s new look. Some comments included:
