In Season 7 of Unexpected, Jose lived with his girlfriend and baby mama, Amya. Helping to raise them and their son, Sammy, was Amya’s mother, Misty “Mama G” Georgeff. Jose’s family was never seen, and viewers wondered if they had abandoned him when he found out he was going to be a dad. Now, Mama G is breaking her silence on wanting to adopt Jose and where his family has been all of this time.
Mama G Took Jose Under Her Wing
When Amya got pregnant, Jose soon moved in with her and her mother, Mama G. Yet, there were rules she had laid down for him. The Unexpected teen was working part-time, but he had to give some of his income to the house. He was now a provider for his son, Sammy, and his girlfriend, Amya, so he needed to pay up. Viewers did not care for how Amya treated him and felt that she talked down to the sixteen-year-old. She berated him and did not let him be the father or partner he wanted to be.
They broke up, and she found a girlfriend, but Jose continued to live with her and Mama G as a co-parent. Mama G was very protective of Jose, and some wondered why she did not become his legal guardian or adopt him, given that he was a minor. She recently went live and explained the details. His parents had moved, plus they became new parents, appearing briefly on Unexpected. Mama G does everything for Jose, paying for all he needs, but his mother will not relinquish custody:
“She will not give me legal guardianship. She still holds insurance for him, she carries the insurance but she does not buy food for him, she does not buy him clothes, she does not buy his personal hygiene. She does not buy any of those things for him.”
Mama G believes there is a sinister reason why his mother keeps holding on, and it is all monetary:
“But I think she will not legally give me guardianship because of taxes. But that could be my opinion, but I’m pretty f**king smart.”
There is a child tax credit, so they may want the money for Jose. That is not fair, given all that Mama G is doing for him, but she seems to go on with her life.

So Much Love For Mama G & Jose
Mama G also revealed that Jose’s father is not really in his life, although his mom did show up for Sammy’s 1st birthday. Unexpected fans continue to be impressed by Mama G’s love for Jose and how she has stepped up to the plate:
- I love that regardless you made sure Jose knew he was loved and wanted
To that, the Las Vegas, Nevada-based grandmother responded:
- I love Jose like a true son he will forever be ok with me
She also noted that the Unexpected star is a great father. Finally, she added that he can freely date anyone he chooses, even while living with her.
