One of two suspects wanted in the shooting death of a man in Niagara Falls on July 16 has been arrested in Montreal and will be returned to the Ontario city.

Josta MacNeal was arrested by Service de police de la Ville de Montreal on Thursday in connection with the killing of 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, said the Niagara Regional Police Service, adding she faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Police earlier reported MacNeal to be 30. Maaroof Bangi, previously identified as being 23, remains at large.

Because no firearm has been recovered, Niagara police said Bangi is considered armed and dangerous.

“If Bangi is observed, do not approach and call 911 immediately,” said a police news release.

The police service urged Bangi to speak with a lawyer and turn himself in.

In their original news release, Niagara police said two suspects went to an apartment building on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls shortly before 9 p.m. ET on July 16 and shot Snoddon.

Snoddon was taken by ambulance to hospital but died a short time later.

    Shooting believed to be targeted

Police said it’s believed the shooting was targeted rather than random, but cautioned people to be careful.

Earlier, Niagara police released footage of the two suspects and appealed to the public for any information about their whereabouts.

Police originally said the suspects were driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV.

At one point, Niagara police said the two fugitives were in a 2016 Toyota Camry with a cracked windshield and damage on the passenger side front and rear doors, last seen on Highway 45 in Hastings, Ont.

Before that, police said they’d recovered a Mazda CX5, believed to be carrying the two. They also noted detectives believe the man and woman may take steps to alter their appearance to avoid detection such as changing the length and colour of their hair, makeup, clothing styles and changes in facial hair.

Police say people can provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
